The company began life as RL Walsh in February 1968, set up by the founder Richard Walsh and was based out of a small unit in Longford near Coventry producing Jigs, Fixtures and Tooling for the automotive industry and associated trades. The business steadily grew from a one man operation and soon become a partnership when sons Owen Walsh and Melvyn Walsh joined the company.
In 1973 when the company became a registered limited entity calling itself RL Walsh & Sons Ltd, it employed approximately 60 people and Gear Cutting and mid volume (batch) production had been introduced into its portfolio of services; Gears, CNC turned and or Milled parts including Engine Manifolds, Cylinder Heads, Suspension Brackets, Gear Box casings and lots more.
With a focus on mid volume production the company out grew its original site and in 1975 purchased its own property and relocated its operations to the current site on Lythalls Lane, Foleshill, Coventry.
In 1992 the founder Richard Walsh retired and Owen Walsh became Managing Director, the company continued to grow, adding more modern plant and equipment and assembly capacity to service the demands of its ever growing customer base. To enable expansion a new factory unit was built in 1995 to bring the manufacturing space availability to 30,000ft2 (3,000m2).
The company has always had a proud history of resolving customer problems, such as gearbox / gear design issues, working closely with the motor sport customers to bring improved differentials to market. The business was delighted to be part of the supply chain supporting Thrust 2 and SSC, manufacturing components and assemblies, which were both successful in setting new land speed records.
From March 2017 the management team has been strengthened with the addition of Richard Webb and Mark Manning. Mark and Richard, both engineers, bring along their technical and commercial skills and experience built up over a 25+ years working and supplying into industry sectors such as Automotive, Yellow Goods, Commercial Truck and Bus, Defence, White Goods, Mobility and Motor Sports; and product knowledge covering low, mid and high volume production of such components as steering systems, machined engine and gearbox castings, machined powertrain forgings, chassis and body parts. Owen Walsh remains a significant player in the business supporting Mark and Richard.
